My name is Melissa Chong. I was born in Michigan and raised in Malaysia. Immediately following high school, I moved to the United States on my own. Being away from family has not been easy, but it has taught me to take control of my own life and to make some hard decisions. At the beginning of my journey to college, I discovered the joy of experimenting with cooking and sharing with people my newly gained knowledge of food and nutrition. After graduating from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associate in Science Degree, I decided to turn my passion for food and nutrition into a career by applying to Virginia Tech’s Didactic Program in Dietetics.
Now, I am a senior majoring in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise with a concentration in Dietetics. In addition to my studies, I have acquired a wide variety of experiences in food service as well as both clinical and community nutrition. I am lucky to have found a way to combine my two biggest interests - medicine and nutrition. I plan to further my education by completing a combined dietetic internship and master's degree program to become a clinical dietitian. |
