Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Food Selection and Preparation Lab Blacksburg, VA August 2014 - December 2014
My favorite class in college was Food Selection and Preparation. I enjoyed applying my knowledge of food science to practical cooking and baking labs. As a result, I applied to be a teaching assistant for this class the following semester. As a teaching assistant, I committed an average of 6 hours per week assisting the instructor and students before, during, and after the lab. I helped to set up and prepare the lab before the official starting time. During the lab, I supervised a team of 3 students in food preparation, cooking and baking. I also answered students’ questions and addressed any problems they had. At the end of the lab, I checked off the kitchen inventory list and helped with cleanup as needed. Outside the lab, I helped the instructor grade lab quizzes and brainstorm new lab procedures, recipes, and activities. At the end of the semester, I created a “No Sugar Added Blueberry Banana Muffin” recipe that might be added to a new version of the lab manual.
