YMCA Healthy Kids Day®
March 2015 - May 2015: Public Relation Chair
August 2015 - Present: Program Leader
Healthy Kids Day® is a national YMCA initiative to provide a "summer kick-off" event composed of free fitness and educational activities for families. At Virginia Tech, this event is organized by a committee of 6 student leaders. As the Public Relations Chair for YMCA Healthy Kids Day 2015, I was involved in event planning and reaching out to local businesses and student organizations. I was excited about this opportunity because it was a perfect fit for my skills, which include event planning and promotion of healthy lifestyles. My major responsibility was to invite local businesses and student organizations to participate in this event. After confirming with them, we communicated event details and setup through email, phone calls, as well as in-person. At the same time, I also worked on recruiting student volunteers for the event through campus newsletters and social media.
On the day of event, I worked with student volunteers to register attendees and vendors. I also worked with committee members to coordinate event details and a walkthrough of the venue. We had 17 vendors and more than 400 participants. After successful completion of this event, I was recommended by the Associate Director of YMCA Student Leadership Programs to take over the Program Leader position for year 2016.

Student Nutrition and Dietetic Association (SNDA)
Active member since January 2014
January 2015 - May 2015: Bulletin Board Coordinator
August 2015 - Present: Fundraising Chair
SNDA is a wonderful organization where dietetic students come together and share our interests in nutrition and health. We promote awareness of nutrition and health in the local community. Through SNDA, I have been actively involved with nutrition outreach, education, and community services. The events I helped with include: Southwest Gluten Free Expo 2014, Healthy Kids Day 2014, Micah’s Backpack, and Kids’ Tech University 2015. I also served as the Bulletin Board Coordinator for Spring 2015. My main responsibility was to update the bulletin board with food and nutrition related research, recipes, Myplate guidelines, exercise routines, and more.
In the Fall of 2015, I was appointed as fundraising chair. I came up with fundraising ideas, coordinated with local business donors, and organized fundraising events. During my membership in SNDA, I gained tremendous experience in teamwork, leadership, and communication. I believe that my experiences in this organization helped prepare me for a dietetic internship where the ability to communicate, facilitate discussion, and build relationships are essential skills.

Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc.
Community Service Chair/ Fundraising Chair
January 2015 - Present
"Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. (SYZ) is a cultural, social, educational, and community service oriented sorority. The National Philanthropy of Sigma Psi Zeta is to combat violence against women in its varied forms. This includes, but is not by any means, limited to the following: rape, incest, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, exploitation, the trafficking of women and children, the abuse of migrant workers, intimidation at work, child abuse, harassment, and spousal abuse. Any kind of physical, emotional or mental duress constitutes violence."
I have been very blessed to be part of the Sigma Psi Zeta sorority, where I am surrounded by a group of strong and wonderful women who inspire me to be the best version of myself. During my junior year, I was elected as the community service chair. In Spring 2015, I planned and coordinated 4 community service events both inside and outside of the chapter: Take Back the Night, Big Event, Relay for Life, and It’s On Us Campaign. I am responsible for fostering an environment in which members understand and appreciate the benefit of giving back to the community in the form of service and volunteerism. As a liaison between my sorority and the Virginia Tech and New River Valley Women’s Centers, I lead my sorority to volunteer at the centers, coordinate food drives, and organize fundraising events. In the fall of 2015, we donated over $1000 worth of food to children and women living in the New River Valley.
